Well my blog has been pretty breakfast heavy lately and I’m not even done! I used to either skip breakfast or have some boring, cardboard cereal that I didn’t really enjoy. Now my mornings are full of colour and flavour, plenty of fruit and healthier grains. This particular recipe was inspired by my newest cookbook purchase, Oh She Glows, and watching the free videos on Food Matters, particularly a man named David Wolfe. David is a very passionate man and spoke enthusiastically about superfoods in the video I watched. I have a stash of superfood powders in the back of my cupboard which I bought with the best intentions but very rarely use. I had a new motivation to use them after watching the video so I worked them into this recipe. I still can’t get on with Spirulina though. I added it to a smoothie once and it left I weird coating on my mouth so I never tried it again. Do you get that with Spirulina?
Recipe (Serves 1)
3 tbsp Gluten Free Oats
1 tbsp Chia Seeds
1 tbsp Raw Cacao
1 tbsp Maca Powder
2 tsp Maple Syrup
Mix all the dry ingredients together before mixing in the wet. The amount of milk you use is entirely up to you. Just make sure it is wetter than you would like the end result to be as the chia seeds will absorb a lot of liquid and thicken it up as it rests in the fridge overnight.
I made mine in a little Tupperware pot so that I could grab it from the fridge in the morning and eat it at my desk at work. I’ve listed the recipe as a single serving as my boyfriend is not a fan of this kind of thing and I prefer to have a fresh one each day rather than have it sit over two nights. But do what ever works best for you. You could even mix in some mashed banana or fresh slices of banana in the morning. Berries would go nice with this too. Also, add more syrup if you like. I am getting myself used to less sweet food so you might find my recipe not quite sweet enough for your liking.
And below is another favourite breakfast that I have been having a lot lately. It’s just gluten free oats, almond milk, coconut oil, ground flax and fresh banana. Yum!
Lastly, I picked up this bargain in Sainsbury’s this week because it is no longer easter. This gluten free, dairy free, vegan, organic easter egg was priced at £3.99 before easter which I think is really expensive as it’s only 100g but I picked it up today for only £1! I considered it last week at £1.99 but thought it was still a little high for someone that occasionally eats normal cheap chocolate, but reduced down to just £1 this week, I gave in and bought it.
It goes without saying but don’t let your pets have chocolate. My kitten just couldn’t let me take a photo without investigating. It went straight back in the box after. She’s going for the snip next month. Wish us luck!
